Baneblade: The Baneblade uses the same body as
the Shadow Sword, but it features more weapons,
though these are usually less powerful. The most
common Baneblade has two battlecannons, two
lascannons and ten bolters.
Basilisk: This artillery unit uses the Chimera body
for its mobility, but its Earthshaker cannon can
pulverize buildings and people alike. It works well
both against distant targets as well as those within
its line of sight.
Bombard: The Bombard carries a large siege
mortar which lobs huge shells into the enemy
position. It cannot lower its barrel to fire at close
targets, but does an admirable job on victims farther
away.
Catachan Jungle Fighters: Only the fiercest can
survive the hazards of growing up on the death
world of Catachan. The toughest of these become
the Jungle Fighters, an elite band of soldiers who
will charge into a hurricane if so ordered. Their
assault troops are available for the liberation of
Infernus.
Chimera: As the Imperial GuardÆs most common
infantry support vehicle, the Chimera has enough
armor and weaponry to support Leman Russes, and
features a turret-mounted multilaser as well as
support weapons. It also has decent speed, and can
carry ten men into battle.
Commissar: High-ranking members of the
Departmento Munitorium, they form an important
part of the Imperial GuardÆs Strategic Command.
Raised from an early age to serve the Emperor,
commissars fight at the front of any battle, inspiring
other troops to new heights of bravery.
Deathstrike: One of the best anti-titan weapons, the
Deathstrike Tactical Missile Launcher System has a
multiplicity of features. It can fire highly destructive
Barrage missiles and dread Warp Missiles. The
missiles arch high in the air before targeting their
designated victims. The missiles can only launch
when the Deathstrike has first fire orders, and its
missile can be shot down while in flight. The
Barrage missile has a wide radius of destruction.
The Warp missile flies right through shields and
will destroy almost any target.
Demolisher: One of the most popular variations on
the Leman Russ, the Demolisher features an
exceptionally destructive short-range cannon in its
turret. This Demolisher cannon can punch through
most armor but finds its main use as a siege cannon,
knocking down fortifications and buildings.
Hellhound Firethrower: This specialized Chimera
replaces its laser with a close-assault Dragon flame-
thrower. It comes into its own when it battles
infantry, and it can flush out the best protected
fortifications.
Imperator Titan: The huge Imperator Titan towers
25 to 40 meters in the air. Anything which survives
a barrage of its infamous Hellstorm Cannon, Plasma
Annihilator, eight secondary cannons, long-range
defense laser, four gun towers and sixteen bolters
will probably have little success penetrating its
twelve void shields and meters thick armor. In
addition, the Imperator hosts an assembly of
Adeptus Astra Telepathica psykers to protect it from
psychic assault and help with targeting. Finally, it
can transport 125 soldiers into battle.
Infernus Defense Force: Every planet is
responsible for its own defense, and Infernus raised
a strong force to battle the orks. Unfortunately, the
orks overwhelmed the native troops, and Imperial
Agents believe that almost none of the defense force
survived.
Knight Paladin: These one-man fighting machines
donÆt have the power of a full titan, but Imperial
Guard troops are more than happy to see one on the
battlefield. The Paladins usually attack with
battlecannon, bolters and chainsword, and defend
themselves with a small but potent directional
power field generator. When they charge they lower
their fearsome shock lances to tear their way
through the enemy.
Land Speeder: This very fast two-man attack
vehicle uses gravitic-reaction jets to fly after its
targets. It can use its short-ranged but deadly multi-
melta in regular or pop-up attacks, where it flies up
from behind cover, fires and then ducks down
again.
Leman Russ: The Imperial GuardÆs main battle
tank, the Leman RussÆ rugged design has served the
Imperium for centuries. It has fought in every
environment imaginable, and its turret-mounted
battle cannon and hull-mounted lascannon
complement each other well. In addition, the Leman
Russ usually features smaller weapons on its side
sponsons.
Leviathan: A mobile Imperial Guard headquarters,
this Squat-designed super-heavy vehicle may not
move quickly, but its deadly array of weaponry is
unequaled. It carries a battlecannon, six lascannon,
twelve bolters and the deadly Doomsday artillery
cannon. Four void shields protect its crew and up to
an entire company (150 soldiers and the
ommander) of infantry.
Manticore: This lightly armored artillery vehicle
usually stays in the rear of a battle, sending its
incredibly deadly Storm Eagle missiles into the
heart of the enemyÆs defenses. Commanders need to
remember that these exceptional missiles take a
great deal of time to reload, and should strive to fire
them when they will do the most good.
Mordian Iron Guard: The Mordian Iron Guard
earned its name in the fierce defense of its own
world from treachery and Chaos. Its impossible
stand in the Mordian palace where it survived
against unbeatable odds has earned it a place in
Imperium history. Their tactical troops were among
the first available for the assault on Infernus.
Predator: The Predator is as fast as a Rhino, but it
has more armor, a turret-mounted autocannon and
two sponson-mounted lascannons.
Reaver Titan: This flexible design can handle a
number of different roles. Commanders can choose
from a wide variety of weapons when outfitting the
ReaverÆs three weapon mounts, and its strong armor
and four void shields offer substantial protection.
While not as fast or agile as a Warhound, it can
move quickly enough to keep its vulnerable back
out of trouble.
Rhino: This armored personnel carrier has
exceptional speed for an armored vehicle, but its
weaponry consists of only two bolters. It can carry
up to ten men (two troop stands) as well as its own
crew. Of course, if the Rhino gets destroyed, its
cargo will almost always die with it.
Rough Riders: These horse-mounted warriors carry
out a number of different duties for their regiments,
including scouting, patrolling and lightning fast
attacks. Capable of acting outside the normal chain
of command, they can range across the battlefield,
using their deadly hunting lances to strike down
their enemies.
Shadow Sword: This slow super-heavy battle tank
may weigh up to one thousand tons, and much of
this is its thick armor and deadly weapons. Few care
to face its six bolters, two lascannons and Gargant-
destroying Volcano Cannon.
Space Marines: The elite of the ImperiumÆs
fighting forces, these warriors are often all that is
required to scatter the EmperorÆs enemies. Special
biodevices and genetically tailored drugs turn them
into towering, super-strong heroes, seven feet tall
and muscles like knotted iron. A thousand planets
each host their own Chapter of Space Marines, and
each Chapter serves the Emperor with undying
loyalty.
Storm Hammer: The Storm Hammer takes center
stage during close assaults, using its four cannon
and fourteen bolters to great effect. It also has
superior armor all around, suffering only slightly
from rear attacks. Its guns are all on turrets,
allowing it to wade into the enemy and let loose.
Tallarn Desert Raiders: The Tallarn Desert
Raiders gained fame throughout the Imperium when
they drove the forces of Chaos from their home
world, and now they offer their finest heavy
weapons troops to help free Infernus.
The Imperial Guard: The Imperial Guard is the
ImperiumÆs main offensive force. Each of the
million worlds humans have colonized must provide
units for the guard, and most units maintain the
unique character of their homeworld.
Thudd Gun: A light, barely mobile artillery piece,
the Thudd gun fires a rapid succession of bursts
from its multiple barrels. Its designers created it to
provide close range infantry support.
Thunderhawk Gunship: The sight of an entire
detachment of Space Marines hurdling from space
in a Thunderhawk has struck terror into many an
enemy. The fact that the Gunship features barrage
rockets, a battlecannon and three bolters does not
hurt. It moves extremely rapidly, an important
consideration since despite its armor, if it gets shot
down, all its passengers die as well.
Ultramarines: One of the oldest and most powerful
Space Marine chapters, the Ultramarines exemplify
the virtues of the order. Its founder, Primarch
Roboute Guilliman, wrote the Codex Astartes
which remains the Space MarinesÆ most sacred
book. No other chapter can match its loyalty to the
Emperor and ferocity in battle.
Vindicator: This variation on the Rhino features
heavier armor and a powerful Thunderer cannon. It
usually has no bolters and carries no troops. It finds
its main roll in flushing enemy infantry from cover
as well as pounding on enemy vehicles.
Warhound Titan: Warhound Titans, while not
actually battle titans, serve an important role in the
Titan Legions. The fastest and most agile of the
titans, Warhounds scout out the battlefield and
usually fight on the flanks, avoiding the deadly
center. They have light armor and only two void
shields. They can mount up to two weapons.
Warlord Titan: These stalwart titans predate the
Imperium itself, having served with distinction for
centuries. Their six void shields and incredibly thick
armor can protect them from almost all attacks,
while their four main guns can cause immense
amounts of damage. The WarlordÆs weaknesses are
its exposed plasma reactor and slow speed, which
many commanders compensate for by equipping it
with long-range weapons and keeping it in the rear
of the battle.
Whirlwind: This is a type of Rhino which
sacrifices its troop-carrying ability (as well as some
mobility) for a multiple rocket launcher. It can
provide long-range barrages or move in to attack
whatever enemies it can see.
